Today
Today…I find myself at a loss to even write my blog. I’m noticing that I just want to be. With all that we have come through over the last several months, and now our current state, how does it serve us to come inward and be still?
To be still and breathe feels life-affirming, almost a privilege, especially in a time where we are witnessing tremendous loss of life. Taking a few deep breaths and giving myself the space and time to relax feels like a vacation. Giving myself the opportunity to send loving thoughts to myself and those around me feels nourishing. Without this time of pause and stillness I become reactive, defensive, and exhaust myself. In that state, I am pushing forward and not listening to what is most important for me and those around me. So, I invite you to be in this now moment and take a pause.
Feel your breath. Feel your heart beating. Feel the sun on your face. Look up and see all that is good.
Taking a pause provides you an opportunity to be responsive and act from choice. When we get triggered we are not present to ourselves. We are in threat mode and a state of reactivity. Being in survival mode is almost a normal state for our brains. It’s how we are wired to self-preserve.
A conscious leader takes a pause, notices themselves, and how they are being in the world around them. A conscious leader is a curious leader - and one who wants to learn about the results they are getting, especially the ones they don’t want.
Until we learn to be aware in the moment, we will continue to react and create results we don’t want.
So, when you get an unwanted result today, this week, or this month, will you take a pause and look at what patterns you automatically stepped into, and created from, that no longer serve you? Will you practice emotional intelligence by feeling your feelings and learning from what they are telling you? Here are a few clues:
Sadness - loss and wanting something new to be created.
Anger - the current situation is no longer serving you. What does?
Fear - caution, pay attention, take time to notice what is for you.
Joy - what wants to be deeply celebrated and shared?
Creative energy - what wants to be born/birthed through you that is exciting?
How can this time in our life, and in the world, be one of great opportunities to learn? What excites you about your learning and what are you being called to do? And most importantly, who are you called to be? Take a deep breath and send yourself love. Look at what is good and all that you have. Creating from this space provides endless possibilities and invites others to join you.
So, today…Feel your breath. Feel your heart beating. Feel the sun on your face. Look up and see all that is good.
Sending love and appreciation to you!
Debra xoxo
